Bethany Wirin - bethanywirin@marshalltownchristianschool.com

Bethany Wirin is the director of Marshalltown Christian School. Bethany is a longtime Marshalltown resident and knows the community well, having been elected to and currently serving as a member of the Marshalltown City Council. She is an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Assistance League of Marshalltown, Reach Out and Read, and co-founder of Devoted Dance. Bethany’s family includes her husband, Bruce, a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments, and their twin children, Betsy and Ben, who are students at MCS. “My husband and I have been greatly encouraged by what we have seen God do in the lives of our children through MCS. MCS offers an encouraging learning environment with teachers, parents, and other supporters dedicated to its mission of: “Glorifying God through biblical, Christ-centered education, providing academic excellence, and preparing students for service and leadership.” Bethany loves music, directs the children’s choir at her church, and has played cello for over 30 years.


 

 

Elizabeth Harris - eharris@marshalltownchristianschool.com

Elizabeth Harris is our 2nd - 3rd grade teacher. She has been with the school since 2009. Prior to coming to MCS, she taught in Cedar Rapids and Anamosa, both in private schools. She has done intensive tutoring both with an agency and privately. Also, she has experience with teaching preschool and a few home school classes. She currently lives on her family farm and enjoys helping there in the summer. She enjoys knitting, making music with her family, and many different art projects.


 

 

Lindsey Lawrence - llawrence@marshalltownchristianschool.com

Lindsey Lawrence is our 4th - 5th grade teacher. Lindsey has been with the school since 2013. "I was given the privilege of teaching 1st grade in South Africa for 2 years as a missionary teacher. While in Africa, I also was able to participate in various community outreach opportunities and orphan ministries. Other than the time I spent teaching in Africa, I have served as a substitute teacher, preschool teacher, and assistant teacher." Outside of teaching her interests include cooking, reading, Mythbusters, and spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephew.

Mrs. Robyn Aiken is our administrative assistant. Before coming to MCS, Robyn worked as the administrative assistant for Marshalltown Community School District food service. She attends First Baptist Church in Marshalltown and has worked with children for several years in the AWANA’s program. Robyn is married with two adult children. She enjoys being organized, working with people and serving Jesus Christ.


 

 

Diane Blagg - dblagg@marshalltownchristianschool.com

Diane Blagg, one of our middle school teachers, provides language arts instruction in our new team teaching rotation. Her enthusiasm for teaching is contagious, and she is passionate about education. She earned her education degree from Maranatha Baptist Bible College, taught eight years at Central Iowa Christian Academy, and homeschooled her children for 18 years. She and her husband, Dave, have 5 grown children. Diane worships at Evangelical Free Church and serves on the hospitality and women's ministry teams. She especially enjoys leading women's Bible studies. In her spare time, Diane likes to read, sew, and travel to visit her children.

Katy Harris is our kindergarten teacher, who warmly and gently welcomes our youngest students to MCS each day. She lives on her family farm south of Marshalltown, where you might find her assisting with the birth of a baby calf. She attends Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, and serves on the music team and as a volunteer in the Awana program. She is a graduate of Emmaus Bible College, and says, “It is my goal to be a model of kindness and patience, love of God, love of learning, and filled with the joy of the Lord.”

Sarah Braun is our 5th – 6th grade teacher, and a recent graduate of Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Elementary Education and Bible/Theology. Miss Braun has been working with kindergarten through 9th grade students in church ministry, camp, and after-school programs for the past 7 years. She has seven siblings (including a twin brother), and they are her favorite people to spend time with, playing board games and just being together. Her hobbies include photography, reading (“Ballet Shoes” is her favorite), and traveling. She came to know the Lord when she was 8 years old at Turkey Hill Ranch Bible Camp and worships at Martensdale Community Church.


 

 

Dr. Barbara Perrybperry@marshalltownchristianschool.com

Dr. Barbara Perry is our 7th - 8th grade teacher. She holds Bachelor and Master of Arts in Education degrees, as well as a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. She is an accomplished instructor, having taught all grades from kindergarten to college, and has twice been named “Teacher of the Year” for Buena Vista University. Dr. Perry and husband, Ace, have two grown sons, Jason and James, and four grandchildren. She loves our Lord Jesus Christ and worships at Grace Church, where she is involved in a small group and volunteers as a nursery worker. She also enjoys reading and flower gardening.

Jade McCoy teaches language arts and math to our 5th grade students. Miss Jade graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Professional Teaching Certification from the University of the Philippines. She taught twelve years at a Christian Montessori school – where she met the Lord – The Abba’s Orchard School, in the Philippines. Back in the Philippines Miss Jade led Bible studies for women and played ping pong regularly. Here in the U.S. her hobbies include reading crime novels, photography, and cooking. She is also a member of Crosswinds Toastmasters in Marshalltown. Miss Jade and her husband, Tom, worship at Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
